September L—The splendid weather we have had all winter has allowed the farmer to get hie work well forward. Sowing in some parts has commenced., but the recent easterly ram has .meantime put a stop to this. Turnips have stood a lot of eating this winter, and shesp have done well. A very large sale of hoggets is advertised for Thursday next, and this would almost show that Eome of the farmers are getting short of feed. On the other hand, the high prices ruling may ba tempting holders to lighten their stocks. Changes. —Mr James Motion, who some 21 years ago bought the homestead portion of tha Merrie Creek Estate, and whe has resided there ever since, has sold out his farm to Mr H. A. Alley, of Winton. Mr Motion was an excellent farmer, and at the time of the sale had his place In goodi heart, and Ins buildings and* fences in first-rate order. For the future Mr and Mrs Motion an& family will reside at Ravensbourne, .ear Dunedin. Mr Alley comes with a good reputation as a farmer, and is fortunate in securing a farm in such goo-i condition. M.I.S. Social.—On Tuesday evening the newly-formed Young Ladies' Mutual Improvement Society gave .1 delightful musical entertainment in the Presbyterian Church. A lengthy programme of anthems, songs, recitations, readings, musical items, etc., was carried out entirely by the ladies', and was greatly appreciated.
