ANNUAL SPRING SALE OF DRAUGHT AND LIGHT HARNESS HORSES.

Messrs "Wright, Stephenson, and Co. report having held their annual spring sale of Clydesdale mares and geldings and van and light harness horses on Thursday, 31st ult. There was a large catalogue, 116 horses of all classes coming forward, and the major portion of the entry changed hands at good prices. The attendance of buyers was all that could be desired, farmers and dealers being piesent from all parts of the province. The chief buyers were farmers in search of useful farm horses, and all young, active, staunch sorts, suitable for farm work, were easily disposed of at prices with which the vendors expressed entire satisfaction. "We had no mares forward of high-class quality, fit for the show ring, but included in the entry were some really good geldings, which sold readily at from £50 to £53. The towncarriers and contractors were the principal operators in this latter class, although one 1 of the best was taken by an Oamaru settler. Whilst there is an excellent demand and a ready sale for all classes of young draught stock, it would be misleading to quote prices current as equal to those of this time last year. We consider the values of to-day are quite £5 to £7 lower. We continue our sale to-day at 11 o'clock, when we will offer & number of good draught and light-harness horses.
