INVERCARGILL D.L.F. LITERARY AND DEBATING SOCIETY.
Dear Dot, — The ordinary weekly meeting of the Invercargill D.L.F. Literary and Debating Society was held in the Oddfellows' Hall, Tay street, on Wednesday evening, August 30. There were present of the committee: Tho President (Willow Brook, in the chair). Zealia, Ceres, Rewa, and Maidie M. It being open meeting, the following contributed, papers:— Boy, who took for his subject "Patriotism" ; Eoby, "A Monster Proposal" and "The Garden of the Heart" ; Lester, "Superstition" ; Jessica, "Love" ; Zealia, "Sympathy"; Cornish, "Hugh Miller, Geologist" ; Weary, "Shakespeare" ; Dado, "Courtesy"; Bolivar, "Are Elopements Justifiable?" Tika, "Growling"; Millicent, "Biographs"; Maidie M., "Passions of the Heart" ; George, "The Reading of Books" ; A Mother's Lass, "A Brother's Love" ; Venetia Corona, "Concerning Familiarity and Reserve" ; Bert, "Experiences : My First Bike Ride" ; and Awkward Ned, an "extract on "Reading." The splendid success of our open meeting is in a great measure due to the numerous contributions of our country and Dunedin comrades, and our country friends we would specially thank for so loyally supporting our open, meetings as they do. — Yours truly, CERES, Secretary.
