GENERAL ELECTION NEWS.

A Cbristchureh telegram states that Messrs J. Hadfield and H. F. Toogood arecoming out as New Liberals for Christohurch South and Christchurch East respectively.

The N.Z. Farmers' Union Executive is taking steps to see that the name of every member of the unign is on the electoral rolL The following circular has been issued in this connection by the president, Mr J. G. Wilson:— "Tli© Conference decided that aefftre steps should be taken to see that each member of the union and his family should be on the roll for the parliamentary election. It is therefore necessary to carry this into effect that every branch chairman or secretary should procure a copy of an electoral roll (either at the post office or direct from the registrar), and call a special meeting of the branch for the purpose of going through it to see that the names of all residents are on it, or to take steps to have those whose names are omitted duly enrolled. No time should be lost in doing this. _ The Premier has himself send an election may come sooner than is expected, and if it did we might be unprepared for it, so I would urge everyone in connection with the union to take active and immediate steps, so that at a ny rate we be prepared for an election at any moment We are no party politicians, but the issue* of the election maj? vitally affect our mem-

bers, and if anyone vrero disfranchised be* cause of not being; on the roll it wculcl be a great misfortune. Officials have been round enrolling olfeetois, but the experience of the past shows it is not well to trust to being on the roll because *hey have taken the names of the household."
