The total quantity of wheat and flour afloat for the United Kingdom is 2,300,000 quarters, and fcr tho Continent 1,540,000 quarters. Tko Atlantic -shipments are 44,000 quarters. Stocks and shares aie unchanged. August 23. Copper: Spot, £69 16s 3d to £70 Is 3d; three- months, £69 12s 6d to £69 17s 6d. Lead, £14. Silver, 23 4gd per oz. Currants: Provincial, 17s to 17s 6d; Anialias, 17s 6d; Patras, 17s 6d to 20s. Almonds, 22s to 235. Dates: Hallowi, 13s 6d to 14s. At the tallow sales 1781 casks were offered, and 514 sold. Fine mutton, 30s 6d; medium, 27s 6d. Pine beef, 27s 9d; medium, 265. August 25. The Bank of England returns show the stock of golcL coin and bullion to be £35,055,000; reserve, £26,171,000; proportion of reserve to liabilities, 46.71. The notes in circulation total £29,102,000 ; public deposits,- £12,153,000; other deposits, £43,786,000 ; Government securities, £18,676,000 ; other securities, £29,203,000. Three months bills are discounted at 1| per cent. Consols are quoted at £90 16s 3d. The following are the quotations for colonial Government stocks, compared with those ruling a week previous : —

Wheat : The English market is quiet and dull owing to large supplies of the new crop. The Continental markets are quiet, but the American market is firm. The crop in the United States is estimated at from 650,000,000 to 700,000,000 bushels, and the Western Canadian crop at 100,000,000 bushels. The American visible supply of wheat is 23,666,000 bushels. Cargoes are firmly held, and 32s 10£ d is asked off the coast,/ and 32s 6d for shipment. The first arrivals of New Zealand wheat were belated) clashing with the new English., crop. . Short berry is quoted at 28s to 295, and ' long b>e»ry"is9s to 30s.> . Flour is weak: Australian declined owing to" a plentiful supply of Home-grown. Parcels on the passage sold at 22s c.i.f. The spot price i2i London is 23s to 23s 3d. Butter is firm and unchanged. The market is strong owing to small supplies of the colonial article. f Copper : , Spot, £72 to £72 5s ; three months, £71 12s 6d to £71 17s 6d. „.. Sugar : First marks, lls 8d ; German, 9s 3d. The Bradford wool market is animated, and better business is passing. Forties, 16£ d ; 46's, 18£ d ; common 60's 25d ; super, 26d. The market has an upward tendency. August 27. 1 Silver, 2s 41d per ounce. Frozen meat: Canterbury lambs, light, 51<3; heavy. 4£d; Ihuiedin and North Island, Hicks: I/eather, an unlimited demand, prico unchanged. No basils were offered. There is a slightly better demand for rabbits. Price 3 are unchanged. Copper: Spot, £72 12s 6d; three months, i £72.
