Mil FISHER'S CHARGES. It is stated that the three Christchurch postal officials have given evidence before the Auditor-general, in accordance with their ' original statements as contained in the affi- | davits. Two other witnesses from the Christchurch Post Office have come up to give evidence, and two more are to give evidence this week. One of the latter is said to be Mr MTBeth, chief postmaster. Mr Fisher still expresses his confidence in the existence of the voucher. The Auditorgeneral's report is not expected till Friday, and possibly it may not be received till next week. j POLICE COMMISSION. j The Police Commission, which has been j j faking evidence throughout the colony for j some weeks past, has forwarded its l-eporfc to the Governor. It is understood that ths commission agrees in the main with the recommendations made by Commissioner ■ Dinnie in his evidence here) last week. It ' is also stated that the report will recom- I mend that greater care be exercised in the ! future selection of men for the force. I | Amongst Mr Dinnie's recommendations werei that in each of the lour chief police centres thero should be a superintendent, an inspector, and a station sergeant ; that another sergeant and six more constables be stationed ;n; n each of the four large cities; that weekly instruction classes for constables be formed in Auckland, Wellington, Dunedin, and Christchurch, and that the constables in those cities undergo regular drill, with the object of improving their appearj a nee when on duty. i
SIR J. G. WARD. Sir Joseph Ward leaves for Auckland on Thursday morning for the purpose of laying the foundation stone of the new Parnell post office on Friday. Ho will be accompanied by Messrs Lawry, M'Lachlan, and Colvin.
