A DISTURB ANCE AT GORE. (From Our Own Correspondent.)

GORE, August 24. An assault was committed by two local residents. Simon and Alexander M'Donald, on the police about 9.15 last night. The two men were creating a disturbance on the street and using language not in acoordance with the rues of propriety. A police warning was evidently resented by the brothers, for in a few minutes they and two policemen were tied up in a wrestling contest on t'n.e asphalt. Sergeant Miller, in essaying to arrest his man, >vas struck over the ©ye. but Constable Scandrett raana.a;ed •to get the handcuffs on. his opponent. The constable tihen went to the assistance of his superior, and both men were at length marohed to the loek-uip. Oce refused to go, but on several of the crowd advising him to proceed quietly he did so as far as the cells, when lie again struggled to get away. Eventually, however, boMi were lodged safely. This morning Simon M'Donald was charged with (1) using bNr&atening behaviour to Sergeant Miller, with intent to provoke a br&acih, of the peace ; (2) assaulting Sergeant Miller : (3) res ; sting fche polioe. Alexander M'Dona'd was charged with assaulting Sergeant Miller in the execution of his duty, and resisting Constable Scandrett. The hearing of the charges was adjourned until next morning.
