And there is an unwritten law that any employee wJio reads it and does not laugh heartily will bo discharged on the instant. The card reads: "Tennyson, or Longfellow could take a worthless sheet of paper, write a poem on it, and make- Jt worth 5000dol; that's 'genius.' "Rockefeller or Morgan can write a. few words on a sheet of paper and make it worth 5,000,OGOdol; that's 'capita!.' "The United States can talc© an ounce of gold, stamp upon it in eagle, and make it worth 20dol; that's 'money.' "A merchant can take am article worta 50c and sell it for Idol ; that's 'business.' "A labourer works eight hours a day and comes home tired for 1.50dol ; that's 'labour.' "A woman can purchase a hat for 2ciol, Lufc ono that costs 20dol; that's 'fool'shness.' "The writer of this can write a cheque for IOO.OOCdoI, but it wouldn't be worth a nickel; that's 'tough.'"
