LULLABY.
The sound of rain on tho lowly roof, The soughing wind in the swaying pines: Drear lullaby, my sweet, for thee ; The night is black beyond the blinds. The wind rolls off. the rain is by, Tho swollen stream is loud • Drear lullaby, my sweet, for thee; Without is the brooding cloud. The cloud is riven, the stans are seen, The deep sea dirge is tolled: Drear lullaby, my sweet, for thee; Without it is wet and cold. The moon lcoks forth on the angered sea, On the drenched and sodden land ; She rideth high. The storm is by. The hills are vast and grand. The winds are low in ths plumy pines, The waters murmur deepSlow lullaby, niy sweet, for thee — She lieth sound asleep. — Charles Obca* Faxhb% Kaikoura August, 1905.
