TAHUNA PARK TROTTING CLUB.

The annual meeting of the Tahuna Park Trotting Club was held in the Stock Exchange on Friday night the president (Mr S. S. Myers) in the chair. About 40 members were present.

The Chairman, in moving the adoption of the report and accounts (which have already been published in the Otago Daily Times.), said that the position was very satisfactory. The year commenced" *with a- credit balance o£ 10s BdJ and finished -with a credit of £143. That was not the resuli of any cheeseparing policy. During the year the club had been liberal in every sense of the word. That was especially so with regard to stakes, which had been increased by over £200 this year. The club started racing some 15 years ago, and since Uhen, by increasing'stakes,-shorten-ing limits, and generally fostering the sport of trotting, horses had been brought to the front that they were glad to see running; while horses of that class which years ago was supposed to comprise the first flight were seen no more. In those earlier days a liorss that could trot even "time was oonsidered a real good horse, but now any amount of animals of that calibre-w ere seen in traps and waggonettes and cabs. So that, while the club had done much for trotting, it had also improved the class of trotting horses. They were not gome to stop at that. They were now finishing a track which every trotting man in the colony could be proud of. Over £140 had been spent on the track during the last few weeks in taking away the sharp turns which many objected to, and otherwise improving the track. The track would be finished next week, at a total cost of about £160, and would be one of the very best ia New Zealand.— (" Hear, hear.") They might now expect to get the best horses in tlzo island, and see the times made that weis put up in other pla-oes. During the past two years the membership had steadily increased, while the stake money had increased slightly also. Determined, as the club was .o make the sport of trotting as clean and good as it could be made, the general public wai appreciating the club's efforts. — (Applause.) They were working harmoniously and well, and he had no doubt the new committes would carry on the good work. Mr "W. J. Gore supported the motion. The club had gone ahead by leaps and bounds. With the improved track, they should get the best horses from Christchurch and farthes north. The motion was unanimously agreed to. The Chairman said that Mr J. A. Millar, •who was always the very good friend of tha club, -was very fully occupied, and desired .o withdraw his nomination to the committee. The election resulted as follows: — Presic'eiit, tlr 3. 3 Myers (re-elected) ; vicepresident, Mr W. J. Gore (re-elected) ; committee (three vacancies) — Messrs R. G. Hudson, J. Jeffs, and J. M'Ghie.
