The trial of Alan Garth Macgregor, for the attempted murder of Mr William Sargood. occupied the attention of the Supreme Court all day 011 Tuesday. No witnes.-cs were called for tho defence, accused's counsel in addressing the jury laying particular sticss ou the absence of intent on accused's part in shooting- at his employer. After listening to his Honor* directions the jury retired aud in 50 minutes came to the conclusion that accused shot Mr Sargood while temporarily insane, and brought in a verdict to that effect, that is to say they acquitted accused on tho ground of insanity. His Honor thereupon made an order that accused b^ kept in strict custody in Dunodin gaol till the pleasure of the Colonial Secretary in the- matter should bo made known.
