Shipping Ports on the West Coast of the INorth Island.

In 1895 Messrs Lovcll and Christmas, of London, presented a trophy to the Egmont A. and P. Society for the best exhibit of lcwt of cheese made prior to May 31 preceding the show but euitable to place on the London market at date of show. The terms were that the trophy, valued at £50, had to be won three times (not necessarily consecutively) before becoming the absolute property of the exhibitor. The trophy was supplemented by a cash prize from the same firm of £10 10s, to the actual maker of the cheese receiving first award. In 1902 the trophy became the property of the Ngaire Co-op Dairy Factory Co., Taranaki, who had previously won in 1898 and 1893. Messrs Lovell and Christmas, Limited, have now donated a very handsome cup, valued at £30, which will be awarded to the same class, but must be won three times in succession, or five times at intervals, before becoming the property of the exhibitor. As in the previous case, the trophy will be supplemented by a yearly cash prize of £10 10s to the actual maker of the exhibit. It is generosity of this nature that so gieatly assists agricultural societies in their endeavours to benefit the colony as a whole, and is worthy of imitation. James Kowin, the representative of Messrs Lovell and Christmas Co., Limited, is shown in the picture with the cup.
