CHRISTCHTJRCH, August 23. At Addington to-day there were moderate entries of stock in almost all departments, and only a fair attendance. There was an improved demand for beef, and prices were firmer. Fat hoggets sold well, but the fat sheep sale was somewhat irregular, while prime sheep were very firm. The lines of store sheep offered met with a brisk sale. 3?at pigs were dull of sale, but there was an Improvement in store 3. There was not much demand for store and dairy cattle. Store Sheep. — The yarding was rather larger than of late, the bulk being hoggets, and no wethers being offered. There was good competition for all classes at the following rates : 204 two, four, and six-tooth ewes, 23s 7d to 265; 128 at 255, 81 sound-mouth, 19s Id; 159 aged, 14s ; 73 ewe heggets, 17s lid ; 105 wether hoggets, 17s 6d; 177 at 17s Id; 40 shorn, 18s sd; 310 mixed sexes, 17s 8d; 170 at 17s; 60 at 17s 2d; 151 at 16s; 48 at los lOd; amd 57 at los 9d. Fat Hoggiets. — The small entries sold firmly at late rates, ranging from 17s to 19s 7d. Fah Sheep. — There was a moderate entry, made up principally of wethers, and included several lines of merinos. There were a- few very prime lines of halfbred wethers, but other lines were light shsep, and prices consequently were comparatively low. Though the sale was somewhat irregular, prime quality was very firm at late rates. Little business was done by export buyers. The few pens of ewes offered sold well. The range of prices was: Prime wethers, 24s to 27s Gd: medium, 20s to 235; prime ewes, 21s to 23s lid; medium, 18s to 20s; aged, 15s to 17s 6d; prime merino -wethers, 18s to 21s 9d; others, 14s 6d to 17s Gd. Fat Cattle.— The entry totalled 164,_and the quality was chiefly good to prime. Included in the yarding was a line of polled Angus steers from Otago. There was an improvement both in bidding and prioes as compared with late sale 3. For Mr W. J. Stoddart (A.311 burton) a first prize steer and heifer sold at £14 17s 6d and £9 10s respectively, and for Mr P. Iveraoh (Waiau) 10 steers realised from £7 17s 6d to £10 12s. Gd. Other steers brought from £7 15s to £10 2s 6d; heifers, £0 2s Gd to £8 10s; and cows, £6 2s 6d to £9 — equal to from 223 to 24s for prime, 19s Gd to 21s for medium, and 18s to 19s for cow and iuferior beef per 1001b. A fair yarding of veal calves sold at from 7s Gd to i' 2 17s 6d. Store and Dairy Cattle. — There was a larger entry of store cattle than there has been for . some time. The entry consisted chiefly of young sorts in l<3w condition, and there was a poor demand. Prices were- as follow: — Yearlings, 23s to 295; 15 to 18 months, 35s to 465 ; two-year-old steers, £3 3s ; do heifers, £i Is; dry cows, 20s to £3 ss. Dairy cows were of moderate quality, and the sale of them was dull, prices ranging from £-k to £8 103. Pigs. — There was a fair entry, and fats met with rather a dull sale at easier rates, while there was a very good demand for stores. ' Light baconers made from 35s to 40s ; heavier, 41s to 455; and extra, to 49s — equal to 3Jd to 32d per lb ; porkers, 23s to 35s — equal to 4d to 4^d per lb; medium to large stores, 15s to 2is; weaners, 6s to 10s.
