SANDYMOUNT.

The i'eninsiua .Brass JHana gave nnorner 01 its popular concerts in the^ Sandymouoit Hall on Friday, 18th inst. There was a very large audience, and the whole function may bo classed as a great success. The band contributed" a number of selections, in which it demonstrated very clearly the marked advaiiC3 it has mads under the baton of Bandmaster Montg'omcry. If tho present rate of progress be maintained, it will not be long before .he Peninsula Band will be able to hold its own with tho best bands of its class. This speaks well for -f-he assiduity of its members, most of whom have to travel a good many miles to attend the practice. The band is now 111 tho Lappy position of being out of debt, and tho possessor of a fine set or instruments and unifoims. Vocal selections were rendered by Miss Sinaill and Miss J. Snip ill and Mr Jolmson (encored). Mr Raynbird told the story of Rio Grande's last race; and wps heartily applauded for his effort. Messrs Johnson and Woolsey put on what was called an *' Irish specialty," and their turn caused considerable amusement, but it would have been more enjoyable if the jokes had been somewhat less " risky." Mr Montgomery gave a comet solo, and Mr Gilford a euphonium solo. Mis 9 Nyhon played thfe acconipariixments and also supplied the music for the dance that followed. For this the spacious floor was none too big, but under the direction of Mr Montgomery, who acted as M.C., everything went off pleasantly. Mr M. Anderson, of Portobello, was *he caterer.
