CAMBRIANS.

August 23 — We have had very changeable weather here lately — freezing one night, snowing the next, and then ending up with win<T and rain. At the time of writing it is very cold, showers of sleet and rain being invariably the order of the day. Mining. — Miners have good cause to growl this 'Season, water being scarcer than it has been for soir.e time past. I hear the Vinegar Hill Company had to shut up again for wanfc of that scarce commodity, water. Mr Bees© Hughes has another large slip tc contend against in the old hill opposite the township. 1 his miner has had very hard luck ever since he started As soon as he gets into the goldbearing ground a large slip conies down, aiid buries up claim, pipes, hose, and everything else.

Coalpit. — I see Mr Orinond Hughes is again, getting a large piece of coal stripped ready for the coal carters to take away. The coalpit known as Dungey's is not being worked just now, but I Jiear that it will bs starting again before very long, when the old rivalry will begin once more. Accident. — An accident occurred the othef day to Mr Edward Morgan, who, while, feeding his stock, was thrown out of his cart and seriously injured. Socials.— A jocial and dance is to be given in honour of our departing schoolmaster, Mr J. M. Allan, on his leaving to take lip his duiies as first assistant at the Kensington School, Dunsdin. During Mr Allan's stay here he has proved himself to be a very efficient teacher, and oiir loss will he L.is new sphere of labour's gain. — The annual ball of the M.TJ.1.0.0.F. is to bs held in the Victoria Hall at Cambrians on the Ist of September, and promises to be a great success, persons from far and near signifying their intention of being present.
