AUCKLAND, August 21.

A road race to seflect the Auckland competitors for the Timaru-Christchurch Race was won by E. J. M'Kay. R. Lees, who came second, entered a protest, alleging that the •winner lccte thy wrong road.

CHRISTCHURCH, August 16.

For the Tiniaru-to-Christchurch Cycle Eoad Race, to be decided on September 2, 270 competitors have been handicapped. Some of the "Napier and Auckland entries not beiuK to

hand yet, have therefore not been handicapped. J Arnst (Timaru) starts from scratch, C. G. Smith (Hast.ngs) 2oim, H. P. Arnst (Asliburton) 3rrun, H. Henderson (Pal-me-iston jSToatb) and M. Randiup (Timaru) smin, and 28 competitors have 50rmn start, which is the greatest handicap allotted. SYDNEY, August 19.

The Batlmrst-Ashfield Road Race, 127£ miles, was won by M'Mahon, actual riding time 7hr 23min, arriving 7min ahead of Allsopp, with Sornmerville third. Arnst, of New Zealand, met with an accident 30 miles from the start, and this spoiled his chances. ■

S xty-one started. The race excited great interest, and there were crowds at various points along the route, while 12, (T0 witnessed the finish. Arnst received a nasty wound in the forehead, but pluckily kept going until after passing Mount Victoria, when he had to retire. Horder, who rode the fastest time, averaged 17^ miles. August 21. Arnst 's wound, received in the road race, necessitates four stitches.
