The New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club's spring meeting was continued to-day. A-though the weather was cold and_dull there was a good attendance, a.nd speculation was brisk, the investments totalling J813,551 10s. Results : —

Light rain fell during the greater part ot the day, making the track holding and the general surroundings depressing. In spite of this drawback the attendance was good, and speculation was brisk, the investments reaching £10,171 10s, and making a total of .627,771 10s for the meeting. SYDNEY, August 19. At Tattersall's races Mr G. G. Stead's New Zealand horse Machine Gun, carrying top weight (10.6), won the Canrway Handicap in a field of 12. The New Zealander shot out after passing the St. Leger stand and, finishing like a flash, beat Isos (7.13) by a n-eck in lmin llsec. Machine Gun started favourite at 5 to 2 against.
