MAUNGATUA.

July 3. — I Lave this week to record the decease of Mxs Eobert Carruthers, the njothuof ilessi'3 'David and James Canutheis, far•i'M's, of this district. Mrs C'airuthers -was a natua of Kirkcudbrightshire. Scotland, and ai rived m A\w Zealand: Ly the Silistna in 3 868. Since thai time- she had coitiiiurd to reside with her sen. Mr David Canuthers, until ou the 2oth of last month she pa«ssd peacefully av^y at the advanced age of SS ■years. She leaves a surviving iamily four sons and one daughter.

Mr John Miller spoke on behalf of the Maungatua School Committee in respect to Miss Peattie'a efficiency as a, teacher during her 3tay in the district. Sonss were contributed in a highly pleasing style~by Mrs A. S. Burns (Woodside) and ?<tiss- M'Carthy (Dwnedin), also by th 3 school children, and interesting anecdotes were contributed by Mr William Thomson and Mr Service (teacher). Proceedings were biought to a termination by the sieging of " Auld lang syne."
