BALLOT FOR LAND.

HOKITIKA, June 22. Six thousand acres of first and secondclass land, Westland district, on 1.i.p., were dealt with to-day. There was a great rush for the land, over 200 applications being received for some of the sections. The total number of applications was 2146. There was a large crowd of applicants present at the ballot, which had to be taken at the Supreme Court, the Land Office accommodation being too restricted. All the sections were taken up.
