Con Hussay is away with Optimist and Galahad at Hastings, and up to the time of writing has had no luck. Mr J. Jorgensen has all his horses looking very well. Coxswain and St. Louis have been kept up to the collar in view of the Wellington meeting. He had the misfortune to have his Strathnairn — Falka filly break her knees by falling on the road this week. The Hiitt-trained horses, Galahad and Optimist, competed at Hastings on the second day of the Jockey Club's meeting. Galahad had bad luck. He took part in a false start in the June Handicap, and won after a punishing finish with Hipporofla. Optimist did not show up prominenth-. Both horses will remain for the Kapier Park meeting. Mcrgmal (Apreinoiit — Merganser) passed through this week, having been leased by a southern sportsman from the trustees of the Rath-bone Estate.

E. W. Paterson, the local bookmaker and owner, was present at the Hawke's Bay meeting. He was not on business bent, but leciuitine his health.

The only Hutt-trained horses engaged at C'hrislchurch are Hydrant and Levant in the Hurdles, Shrapnel Shell, Coxswain. Ghoorka, Optimist, Exinoor in the Winter Cup. Waiterere has been engaged in both Hurdles and Steeplechase.

Local punters did not have too good a time on the Hawke's Bay meeting. Jack o' Lantern and Papa were both well supported for the Steeplechase. .Trumpery and Cavalry carried local money in. tho Hurdles.

It is probable Nor'-west will again be sen out at the Hutt, accommodation having been secured for him.
