WAREPA.

June 26.— After about three weeks of severe frost we have been enjoying a few days of real spring weather. A great storm was prophesied, but we have been fortunate in escaping it. Roads.— As usual at this time of the year, the clay roads are in a bad state. Mr Nicol, our worthy member for the county, is doing Ins best to arrange a loan to metal a good portion of these roads, which I think is a better plan than placing a small quantity of metal here and tb-cM— which may satisfy a few ratepayers, but does little real good. Social.— A very pleasant evening was spent in Warepa Hall on Tuesday evening, June 20, when a welcome social was given in honour of Mr and Mrs John Grigor, Toiro. Mr Grigor, who has lately joined the ranks of the banediets, has made himself exceedingly popular since he took up his residence in this district, and, needless to say, the large number of folk who were present on- Tuesday evening showed that Mr Grigor's obliging services had been appreciated. During the evening Mr J. Christie presented Mr and Mrs Grigor with a handsome silver inkstand, sixitably inscribed. Mr Grigor having responded, and refreshments having been handed round, all joined in singing " For they are jolly good fellows " and wishing Mr and Mrs Grigor all happiness and prosperity. Wedding -Bells.— We have had quite .a number of marriages in our district lately. On June 14 .Miss L. Fahey, daiighter of Mr P. Fahey, of Warepa. was married to Mr 'Sandford, Warepa ; on the Ist inst. Mr John Grigor, of Toiro, was- married to Miss I. M/Donald, of Invercargill ; and on the 21st Miss Mary Paterson. daiighter of the late Mr M. Paterson, of Kaihiku, waa married to Mr R. Ayson, son of JMr J. Ayson, of Kaihiku.
