May 30 — Winter is now upon us with its wonted severity, and all kinds of stock are suffering thereby. Threshing is in full swing, but unfortunately mast farmers are waiting till spring to thresh". The popularity of Frank and the many creditable performances made by him induced his many Southland friends to entertain him and present hnn vrith some tangible proofs of their regard for him. There -were over 250 persons present at the banquet, which was held in a. large marquee, and over which Mr James Fleming, •coiinty councillor, •jxrewiclacl. jLfter several toasts" had been duly honoured, the chairman presented Mr Forde with a suitably-inscribed and handsome cold watch on behalf of residents and frirnds. "Woods, secretary Southland Athletic Association, -presented Mr Forde with a costly ornamental gold medal on behalf of the association as a. certificate of his having loken the world's record at > hammerthrowing.
