HINDON.

May 29. — A concert and dance in aid of thr cemeteiy funds was held in. the Tain School on the 19th inst. The entertamrne, was well patronised, and, as a result, quite a large sum of money was raised. With this the Cemetery Committee purpose planting trees in the cemetery grounds and otherwise improving them. Mr Isbister was in the chair, and briefly explained the object of the social. A local choir, consisting of Mr Isbister, Mi=3 Fleet, Miss Garrett, Misses A. and K. Harrison, Mrs T. Garrett (conductress oi the choir*, and the Misses Rutherford, contributed s-ev-eral items in unison, the latter also rendering the "Three old maids of Lee." Songs and recitations were also given by Miss A. Harrison, Miss Garrett, and Messrs Brady, Swallow, and Reggett. The concert terminated at 10 o'clock, when refreshments were dispensed. After these had been done ample justice to, dancing was commenced. Music was provided by Mrs T. Garrett (piano), Mr Curtis (cornet), Mr D. M'Donald (violin), Mr Holt Isccoxdioii), and Mr M'Donald (bagpipes). Proceedings were not terminated until about 3 a.m., and after Mr Isbister had cordially thanked the vocalists and musicians, all dispersed, having thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Political.— Mr Donald Reid. M.H.R., addrsssed a meeting here on the 13th, but owing to the weather being very cold, the audience was not so large as it otherwise would have been. Mr Reid spoke for an hour and a-half, during which he gave some very interesting information, and was listened to most attentively. A motion of confidence in Mr Reid, proposed by Mx Isbister, was carried with acclamation.

Wedding. — The 24th i.*si. was quite a gauday in Hindon, for on that day was celebrated the marriage of Miss A. Butherford to Mr T. BaTron. The Key. Mr Thompson, assisted by Mr Nicolson, performed the ceremony at the residence of Mr . J. Rutherford. Misses "V. and J. Rutherford acted as bridesmaids, and Mr G. Rutherford as best man; Mr J. Rutherford giving away the bride. The ceremony being over, a numerous party adjourned to the dining room to partake of the wedding breakfast. Toasts in Itonoiir of the bride and bridegroom were proposed by Messrs Thompson, Nicolson, and G. Rutherford, Mr T. Barron responding. Mr James Rutherford had very kindly issued invitations to all the local residents to be present at a dance held in the •evening in honour of the marriage, and at he appointed hour the dance room was crowded. The room looked very pretty, being gaily adorned with all kinds of greenery. During the evening many games, songs, and other amusements were indulged in, while refreshments were on hand throughout the whole evening. Towards morning speeches were given by Messrs Isbister and Wright, thanking Mr J. Rutherford for his hospitality, and evilogising the bride and groom. Next day Mr and Mrs Barron departed for the north on their honeymoon, bearing with them the good wishes of all the community, by whom they are much respected. Mr and Mrs Barron were the recipients of a large and varied assortment of very useful presents, many of them being of considerable value.
