ST. BATHANS

May 29. — St. Bathans experienced a greatdisappointment last Saturday through the Premier's erratic movements. The honour-abl-e gentleman wired from Naseby on Friday that he would visit St. Bathans on the following- day and deliver an address at noon. Great- preparations were made to give Mr Seddon a loyal reception. The ladies were called into requisition to decorate the hall. The menfolk organised deputations to interview the Premier on important topics, such as prospecting, conservation of water, and other minor matters, but all of great interest to the community. But, alas, "the plans of men and mice gang aft stglee," and so it turned out with Mr Seddon' s appointment. On Saturday forenoon a wire came cancelling the Premier's engagement of the previous day, but stating that he hoped to be able to visit St. Bathans at an early date. The views of the prospecting deputation were wired to the Premier at Ophir. As they have already been sent to you, and will no doubt appear elsewhere in this issue, I need not quote them in this column.
