SOUTHLAND.

Two Boer pom-pom shells, which had been lying in Mr G. Johnson'e store at Lumeden for years, and from which the explosive was supposed to have been withdrawn, were placed beeid-a a fire. While Mr Johnson was at lunch a terrific explosion startled the neighbourhood and did considerable damage, the vibration bringing down the contents of several shelves. Fortunately no one was on the premises at the time.
