Notes from Cromwell.
(Fbom Oub Own Correspondent.) CROMWELL. May 23. The weather is fine, with heavy frosts a>3 right. The river is falling fairly fast, and is now at a low level. The New Half-way House dredge is getting ready to make a start, and should be able to bottom now. The New Alpine Consols dredge started yesterday, and bottomed last night on rich wash.. The drift will be bad for a few days opsning out. The Ttiley's Beach dredge is working steadily, p-nd -should get good returns where she is now ■working. The Alpine No. 2 dredge is starting thi3 afternoon, and I think will do well.
