WEST COAST BANDS' CONTEST.
GREYMOUTH, May 24The Greymoutt band contest eonrnetitiong are being- concluded to-nig-ht. Three thousand persons witnessed the march contest in the "Victoria, Park this afternoon, eight bands competing. The Opera House was packed to-night to hear the test piece. The results of the whole of the competitions will not be known till very late tonight. The weather has been fine throughout, and th« contest proved & great success. I The following are the successful competitors : — BB basses, NeigHberurs (Granity) ; B fiat basses, E- Prout (Granity) — Naylor and I Galbraith tying for second place; slide trombones, Cumming (Denniston) and Sullivan (Granity) tied or first place; euphoniums, J. Goodall (Greymouth) and Bevan (Weetport) tied for first place; tenors— Naylor (Westport) 1, Moye (Denniston) 2; quartets — Westport City 1, Grey Battalion 2, Inangahua 3; sopranos, A. M. Masters (Westport City) I—Crumpton1 — Crumpton (Inangahua) and Neighbours (Granity) tied for second place; B flat cornets — T. Gocdall (Grey Catholic) 1, Seymour (Grey Battalion) 2, Austin (Inangahua) 3; trombone trie— Granity 1, Denniston 2; baritones — Joneg (Westport) 1, O'Brien (Granity) 2, Munroe (Grey Battalion) 3; quickstep — Hokitik* Citizens' 1, Denniston 2, Grey Catholic 3ji I test selection — Grey Battalion 1.
