INVERCARGILL D.L.F. LITERARY AND DEBATING CLUB.
Dear Dot, — The ordinary weekly meeting of the Invercargill D L.F. Literary and Debating Society was held in the Oddfellows' Hall, Tay street, on Wednesday evening, Maj^-24.- There were present of the committee-— the president, Willow Brook (in the chair), Zealia, Ceres, Southern Cross, Eewa, and Maidie M. It being open meeting, the following contributed papers: — Boy, .who took for.his subject, "In Otago Central" ; Harry, "Early Associations" ; Roby, "Smiling" ; Cornish, "A Romance of the Back Blocks" ; Willow Brook, "With the Volunteers," and also a selection entitled '"The First Baby"; Tika, "John Milton"; Zealia, "Are Women Vainer Than Men?" andi Maidie M., "Sympathy. Two interesting papers, relating Texas Jack's experiences in Otago Central, were also read. We wish to sincerely thank our comrades in other parts for sending in such exceedingly interesting' papers, and" thus making our open meeting so successful. A motion that Boy be elected a vice-president of the club was unanimously carried amid much applause. — Yours truly, CERES.
