D.L.F. LITERARY AND DEBATING CLUB.

Motto : "Union is strength." Dear Dot,— r The usual weekly meeting of the D.L.F. Literary and Debating Club was held in the D.L F. room of the Witness office on Tuesday evening, May 23. The following members of committee were present : The president (Harry, in the chair), B. Watch, Go Hon, Lenore, Pauline, C. C. M., Troilus, Pakeha (of the Invercargill Club), and 24 members. Being open meeting, the following contributed papers : —Black Watch, "The Club"; Texas Jack " Adventures in Central Otago " ; Fra Dia-volo, "A Life on the Ocean Wave" ; Rcby, " Smiling " ; Jessie, " A Day in New Plymouth" ; Go flon, "Portobello as a Favourite Resort" ; Maid Yvonne "Raffling at Church Bazaars" ; Troilus, "Development" ; Boy, "Critics" ; Jeannie Deans, "Cats" ; Lady Dundas, "A Trip to Wellington" ; Nil Desperandum, "A Drive from Invercargill" ; and Harry, "Early Associations." A hearty vote of thanks was passed to all who contributed papers, 2nd it was decided that the papers written by Boy, Koby, Fra Diavolo, Harry, and Go Hon be published. We are pleased with the success of this open meeting, and heartily thank our country comrades for their assistance. Please accept our invitation to be present at the annual social, which will be held on June 16 (Friday of winter show week).
