TAIERI HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY.
The annual meeting of the Taieri Horticultural Society was held at Mosgiel. There was a good attendance of members (says th& Taieri Advocate), his Worship the Mayor presiding. The following officebearers were elected for the" ensuing year : — President, Mr W. R. F. Fraser; vioe-presi-dents—Messrs D. T. Shand r W. Kirkland, R. Charters, T. Aitken, J. A. M'Kinnon, and D. Reid, M.H.R. ; patrons— Mrs John Findlay, Revs. J. M. M'Kerrow, A. W. Kinmont, and F. W. Boreham, Drs Allan end M'Cormick, Messrs W. Martin, W C. Todd, and D. Reid, sen. ; secretary and treasurer, Mr G. B. Burns; committee — Mrs A. Johnston, Mrs Morgan, Miss CalUckr Messrs W. L. Christie, D. L. Christie,
P. Gibson, 6. Hendry, jun., M. Morgan, A. Grant, J. M'Taggart, T. Aitken, R. Aitken, W. Craig, J. Rowan, T. M'Fadden, A. Sinclair, S. Sinclair, W. Sinclair, W. Scott, J. Turnbull, W. Turnbull, J. Hendry, J. Brown, W. Allan, W. Smith, and H. Christie. Messrs G. Hendry, sen., T. Stoddart, and John Turnbull were elected life members for the valuable services they had rendered. The President (Mr Fraser) suggested that members prepare readings on horticulture generally, and read them at the monthly meetings. A oommittee, consisting of Messrs Fraser, Scott, Hendry, and Gibson, was appointed to make the necessary arrangements for carrying out the proposal. In order to encourage and work up interest in horticulture, the President notified his intention of communicating with the Government Biologist (Mr T. W. Kirk, F.L.S.), to tryto arrange with him to deliver a lecture here at an early date.
