Chief-iruide Clarke, who has just returnee! to Wellington from a six months' sojourn ati Mount Cook, states that though the alpineclimbing season was latei in starting it was* a very successful one, and a long period o£ very fine weather was favourable to climbing in the higher altitudes. Mr Clarke is as enthusiastic as ever over the frozen! glories of Mount Cook fed its vicinity.
The search for a young man named King, who has been missing on Mount Egmonfe since Monday, Isth inst., has proved totally unsuccessful, and there can be no doubt that he has suffered a terrible fate, succumbing either to accident or exposure No pains have been spared in the search, which i% it hopeless to further persevere in.
