Sir George Goldie has succeeded Sir Clements Markham as president of the Royal Geographical Society. The King thanked Sir Clements Markham for his able, zealous, and successful services. The Hague Arbitration Tribunal decided that Japan was not entitled to levy a house tax on buildings situated on the British, French, and German concessions held under perpetual lease, or to impose any impost on such lands unless expressly stipulated in the leases.
