CANTERBURY POULTRY NOTES.

!£Fkom Otjb Own CosßßsroNDßirra CHEISTOHTJRaH, May 20. Entries for the Christchuioli. P., P., and , Canary Club's exhibition dose, on Thursr ' day. 25ttu T&e show takes place, on June 1; 15, 16, *ikl 17 in the Coloseum- The ', judges in the poultry seetioa are: L. Banks \, (Minoreas, etc.}, J. Casey (Wyandottes, |! ete.>, E. ReilJy (Orpingtons, €*c.X *nd A. f Palmer (Leghorns, etc.). Fifteen shillings ' extra is given by the club to the Ift lwrgest classes, in. addition to the 23 clut> cups t'iffttch are offered." Another special is £1 i fixe tb& best cockerel or pullet in the chow. i The Novice Olas3 and Ladies' Bracelet, | which are always well filled, are again in- ; ohided in the schedule. The club is also ! more liberal this year in prices in. the | waterfowl, pigeon, and canary sections. Mr '■ D. Craijr. is the secretary, and Mr Arthur ! stilt fills the position of treasurer. I At a recent meeting- of the chtb Mr A. Walker was unanimously elected the club's ! representative, whose dirty it will be to re- | port to the Protest Committee any cases of faking^ trimming, etc. I don't envy aim ' his billet. i I have visited a number of the fanciers* , yards lately, and a fsw notes on them may I be of interest to southern fanciers.: — | Blacik Orpingtons are likely to be well | represented with come fine specimen.?. In I the cock clas3, last year's cup cockerel will represent Mr Tyree. He is in splendid . feather. G. Rollinson, F. Hack, and H. Pannell will also show good ones of the Bisham breed; in fact nearly everything is Bisham or <BLsham and Roilinson that is to !be found in the fanciers' yards—here. If ; Pannell has two better cockerels than he showed last year, which, is saying a lot, when he filled the second and third* plac ?s! G. Butchec has a couple of good ones, but they are rather purple 'in colour! Walker and G. Roilinson will also show fine birds. Hack, Tyree, Tindall, and Pre- | sents have the right type of Orpington, but {i are backward. The ptiJfcrf. class will bring t , together some big ones, but most of them I have* seen are too long in the back and very loose in the feather- I have not seen the Bisham birds lately, but hope to before this is in print. Buff Orpingtons arc very numerous- but good specimens are scarce ~in local y ards.

A. Walker will be very hard to beat in the cock class with the bird which was second in the adult male class at Dunedin. He is in full feather, and very even in colour. Wilson (of Raugiora), Tyree, Pannell, and Shaw have good exhibition cocks. I have "hot seen anything special in buff cockerels. Tindall has a lemon-coloured one, very eotuid in flights and taii, rather on the small side. Pannell has also a couple of fair ones. Shaw has a number of very rieheoloure<l cockerels, showing a little dark in the tail, but are backward. Walker, who won in pullets last year, has an early one of great size and type, but bleached in colour. E. Major, a young and new fancier, has a beauty — colour, type, and size. Silver Wyandottes are numerous, and some very good laoed ones arc likely to be seen out. Tindall has a good, even, allround cockerel, as also have Walker, Lane, and Sykes. A. Walker has some beauti-fully-laced pullets but they are very narrow. Mackay has one of good type, and tLe lacing is a sound black and white, though a bit close on the wing. Sykes has a very similar pullet, but dark in hackle. Lane has a good one, if ready. Messrs Ross, Clwison, R&gen, and Double have all to be reckoned with. Walker has no less than six clean, hens fit for showing. Sack will haw a good hen also — the mate to last year's winner, which has passed out. The • Riccarton fancier will have last year's second prize cock very fit. Shaw will exhibit hi» Hemsworth cock ; he is a -Pne stock bird. Shaw's Hemsworth hens are going into their second moult, and one promises to» come out a very clean black and white. Golden Wyandottes have been bred by Messrs. Hack, Taylor, Tindall, Kerr, Hearfield, Clark, ~and others, but I have seen ■ no cliamniona. White Wyandottes of good colour, type, and size will he exhibited by J. J. Parker, especially his pullets. J. C. Wilson, H. Bell, and Johnstone have also good specimens. Brown Leghorns are- going backward here. I have not seen a good coeikerel or pulletin Chr:stchureh this year. Hickma.n, of Balcairn, has a couple of decent cockerels. Fartelf and M'Kay nave dropped right out, ' Walker's are fate, and Shaw has been , breeding utility birds. Anderson's are baok•vard, but very fair specimens. ■ White Leghorns will have better show|specomeii3 than ever. Hearfield^ did not ■ breed many from- bis imported hens, but ' they are ail tip-toppers, especially 'cockerels. The imported hen which won last year is earning on nicely. Heaxfield's. cockerels are good, sound-faced birds this year. A. B. Menzies has aiso some fine specimen?. Mr M'Conchie will also exhibit a fine beaded cockerel, big in body . and in full feather. Partridge Wyandottes are becoming mow popular. H. PareneH has about 70 bred from his imported trios. They are nieeiy laced and a. gjrea.t tyr.-e of the for-eecl. Miuorcfts. will again be strongly represented. Tindall -will show a great headed cock, and the right tjpe. Ballantyne has also a- fine, headed bird, but too- short in back. D. Hampton has a good hen. but the last Dunedin winner should beat her if fit. There are some hummera of cockerels in Tindall's and Hampton's yards. They are great size. The two same breeders will also pen better pullets than last year's winner. Balla-ntyne had some very promising ■ ones-, but I doubt if they will be ready to ; hold their own against TindalFs and Hampton's representative. Kennedy and Gilbert Wilson will be represented in the Modern Game Classes. j Daere is on a visit to Sydney at present. ! On his return he judges Ashburfcon, Blenheim, and Nelso-n shows. Walker is selected as one- of the judges for Wellington. Last week his best blacik Orpington pallet died. Christchurch fncie-rs -will be strongly represented at your champion, show. I know of a silver Wyandotte cockerel which has been sold, but delivery is not to be given till after the Dunedin chow. It is to be hoped the sale will end satisfactorily to both parties.

M>- Flavell Hayward. of the West Picture Company, has for the past two years gone hatless. He finds as a result that he never catches cold, that his hair, which before he left off wearing hate, was rapidly disappearing and was quite white, is now growing with renewed! vigour, and regaining; its natural colour. Mr Hayward attracted much attention in Timaru, where he told an interviewer that the custom of wearing no headgear was so common in the Olu Country that his appearance would cause jip comment.
