'SALE OF A DREDGE.
-Messrs James Samson and Co. on Monday -offered "for .sale by auction at their rooms, "under a power' of sale contained in deed of mortgage, the Golden Beach Company's flredge, claim, and water rights at Alexandra. Th~e dredge and claim in question were once -property of the jNew Golden "Beach Company, the finances of which have for some time past. been in an extremely bad state, the company being in debt to the extent of over £4000. The mortgagees, whose claim over the concern represented a considerable portion of this amount, a few weeks ago foreclosed, and that ended the company's existence. The mortgagees .decided to sell the whole concern, and the property was put under the hammer yesterday <aft«*noon. The attendance of speculators and -others interested was very good, and the property drew rather -spirited bidding. The opening offer was £500, with .£SO bids following, until, .after good competition, £1200 was reached, -and at this price it was knocked down to Mr J. JP. iane, of JDunedin. It is the inrfcention of Mr Lane, we understand, to put the dredge under repair and make a few alterations, and he expects that these will take about a month to complete, after which a start will be made where the dredge now is, and the ground, which had not yielded much to the' company, given another trial.
