DUNEDIN STOCK EXCHANGE

Saturday morning's market, taken all round, appeared to be 3ust a little easier m tone, in that not quite the same, amount of at^ptt^ion was accorded mining*stocks' generally as during the other days of the week. For instance, Golden Beds, Junction Electrics, No Town Creeks. Otagos, Rise and 9hines, and one or two others were placed on offer, but drew no inquiry, while requests for Chicagos, Golden Runs, and Hartleys were not responded to. In addition, dealing was confined to one stock BignelFs No Towns, — two sales in which wore brought off at the same price. Electrics showed an upward tendency, Hessey's vtcre easier, »and New Alpine Consols steady, while New Fourteen-.mile Beaches received no notice whatever. The Molyneux showed another fall of lin -since the previous day, or sin during the week, the height -above normal mark at Alexandra being sft siu, with the weather fine, : rom which it may be taken that further falling is not unlikely. That the drift" has been somewhat troublesome during the past week is manifested by the poorness of the re/turns, with, of course, two ot three exceptions. Alexandra Leads had slightly better notice on Saturday at 5s 7£d, while holders, wno were a shade easier, were asking 6s. The quotes, though close, did not result m business. Alpine No. 2 shares were in much better demand aFlOs, but holders were again asking 15s. Values in Bigneli's No Towns were somewhat easier, but fairly general inquiry was made for them. Two parcels of these shares changed hands at 15s, and at the olese further lots were procurable at 15s, with buyers offering 14s 6d. Charlton Creeks had inquiry at 6s 3d, and a seller responded at 10s, while a request for Chicagos at Os 6d was not responded to. Electrics firmed a shade, buyers offering 325, as against 31s' the previous day, and holders asking 36s 6d, a price 6d in advance of that asked on Friday. A parcel of Golden Beds placed on offer at Ss drew no inauiry, while a request for Golden Runs at 203~ 6d was not responded to, Hartley and Rileys being inquired for at 50s with the same result. Buyers of Hessey's shares were a deal easier, only" offering 16s, a price 4s under that at which a parcel changed hands the previous day. Holders, however, were firmer at 21s. Junction Electrics were procurable at %s, but drew no inquiry, while New Alpine Consols were qviotedat the previous day's rates. No Town Creeks were on offer at 20s, r-%'l Otagos at 31s, but no demand was made for either. Riley's Beaches had buyers at 5s 3d, and sellers at 6s, Rise and Shines sellers at 275, and Sailor's Bends buyers at 13s and sellers at 14s 3d.

A feature of Monday's share market, and one that has not been noticeable for some time past, was the briskness displayed in dealing and qtioting, more especially at the afternoon rail-over. Altogether six sales were brought oil for the day — five of these being in mining stocks and one m investment. The general inquiry, for stocks was also muck better ;md»

as sellers in not a. few cases came down a little, quotes were a deal closer than usual. Buyers and sellers of Rise and Shines came to very c cse quarters, while Electrics Golden Pauife, He=sev's, Junction Electrics, New Alliiue Consols, Xew Fourteen-mile Beaches, and Sailor's Bends all commanded more oi '.ess better r.ctice. In the investment stock depaitme/it a parcel of Xew Zealand Drug (£2 paid) shares charged hands a-t 46s Gd. with fuithei buyers on the maiket at 465, and selleis at 17s. Th; river showed a fall of 2in on Monclrt> morning since Saturday, the height above the nomial market at Alexandra being sft 3in, with steady ram falling. Whether the ram will affect the n\er to any extent jemams to 1)0 seen but probably, as was tho case lccal'.y, it has cleared off again. The returns for the past week, though none of them is very large, show an improvement as compared with previous weeks — m fact, the total is about ilic !arge3t fhis year. The Electric Xo. 1 unexpectedly heads the list with 990z. and is followed by the Hartley and New Fourteen-mile Beach dredges with yields "in the vicinity of 70oz. The West Coast returns, though sruaL numsiical'.y, are fcr the most part geed, the top of the list being occupied by the Pactohis Xo 2 dredge with 720z odd. This company is now doing remarkably well with its two dredges, and prospects look very ingAn inquiry was made for Alpine Xo. 2 shares yesterday at" 7s 6cl, and a, seller responded at 15s. Bigiiell's -No Towns again had buying notico, and another parcel changed hands at 15s, there being- additional buyers at the same price, and sellers at 15s 3d. Electrics drew better buyirg inquiry at 335, but holders eased to the extent of Is 6d, asking 355. Buyers of Golden Runs advanced another 3d, the" price offered being 20s 9d, but there was still no response from holders. Hartley and Rileys were placed on "the market at 545, but drew no notice. Hessey's were firmer, though the quotes were still inclined to be wide. Junction Electrics came into prominence again, and fairly, general inquiry resulted in the changing hands of two parcels at 6s 6d, further buyers being in evidence at tile close at 6s 4Jcl, and sellers at 6s 9d. A request for Manuhcrikias at 29s was responded to at 325. Values in New A "pine Consols were a good deal firmer, and a parcel changed hands at 11s 9d, the market containing further buyers at 14s €d and sellers at 15s. A buyer of New Bendigos was in evidence at ss, and a seller at Ss. The inquiry for New Fourteen-mile Beaches was considerably better, and a transaction was recorded at 28s p. Further inquiry was made at 26s p., but holders were asking 30s p. No Town Creeks were procurable at 20s, Otagos a.t 30s 6d, aoid Pactoluses at 31s, but noi^e of them drew inquiry. Buyers and tellers of Rise and Shines managed to come to very close quarters, there being only a margin of 3d between the qtiotes, which were — buyers 26s 3d. sellers 25s bd. This closeness did not, however, terminate in business on 'Change.
