D.L.F. LITERARY AND DEBATING CLUB.

Dear Dot, — The weekly meeting of the D.L.F. Liteiary and Debating Club was held in the D.L.F. room in the Witness office on Tuesday evening, April 4. There were present of the committee — the president (Harry), in the chair; Black Watch, A. Ned, T. D. A., Lenore, C. C. M., Hubert, Troilus, and 25 members. The subject under consideration Wds, "Should We Advocate- a Phonetic Spelling?" Ths affirmative was taken by Go Hon (leader), supported by Lilianfels" and Black Watch, and the negative by A. Ned and Harry. Consideiing the scope of the subject, we had a good debate, the judges — Emerald, Texas Jack, and Didn't You Knew giving their decision in favour of the established style of spelling. For impromptu speaking, "My Favourite Becreation" was taken. Fred gave the preference to football, Gi> Hon to net-fishing, B. Bill to swimming, Hubert to gymnastics, Areta, to walking, C. C. M. to biking and boating, Bob to horse or bike riding, A. Ned to swimming, Black Watch to the grand old English game of cricket, Nil Despsrandum to photography, and Harry to cycling. At the conclusion of the impromptu speeches A. Ned resigned his position as vice-president of the club. Special mention was made by Harry and Hubert of the services Ned had rendered to the club ; and it was unanimously resolved, on the chairman's motion, — "That we place on record oiir appreciation of liis services during his term of office." The election of A. Ned's successor will take place at nexf; meeting. All are cordially invited to attend. — Yours truly,
