VITAL STATISTICS.
The following vital statistics for the month of February are piiblished in last week's Gazette : —
The total births in the above boroughs amounted to 438, against 519 in January— a decrease of 81. The deaths in February were 147, a decrease, of 50 on the number in January. Of the total deaths, males contributed 83 and females 64. Thirty-six of the deaths were- of children under five years of age, being 24.49 per cent, of the whole number-; 28 of these were under one year of age. There were 42 deaths of pei-sons of 65 years and upwards : Peven men, 66, 67, 72 (two). 74. 77. 88, and four wenv-n, 65 (two), 71, 80 died at Auckland; fivemen, 67, 72. 76. 78, 84. and five women, 68 (two). 69, 79, 89, at Wellington ; six men, 66, 6S, 71, 74 (two), 90, and two women. 68, 80, at Chri-tchurch: and eight men, 65 69, 74. 78 (two), bl (two), F9, and five women 66, 70, 74, 78, "60, at Dunedin.
