CLEARING SALE AT BURWOOD STATION.

Messrs Wright, Stephenson, and Co., in conjunction with the National Mortgage and Agency Company and Messrs Guinness and LeCien (of Waimate), report having conducted an important clearing sale of live slock and implements on Thursday, 30th March, at the Burwood Station yards on behalf of Messrs Robert Campbell and Sons, whose leases have just expired and have been relinquished by JJ\oxu. Although the Matioa lies a good J^j

back, the large number of sheep to bo offered induced a very good attendance of buyers exceedingly anxious to fill their requirements. The very keen demand on the part of Canterbury buyers for all classes of sheep was met by a rather stronger demand by local pastoralists, including the two new lessees of the runs, who, ha-ving taken, over the country, could not afford to let all the sheep go. Bidding was so spirited that a total clearance of the 27,000 sheep, 24 horses, 66 head ot cattle, and an assortment of implements was effected in about two hours. The sheep were in fair order, although the absence of good paddock accommodation round the homestead to hold the sheep after they were mustered rather militated against their appearance. This insignificant drawback was, however, far inoie than counterbalanced by the good reputation of the Burwood stock, which are known to be very sound and healthy sheep, and are good doers wherever they go. The yarding arrangements "for the stock, made by Mr W. W. Mitchell (the manager), were very complete, and gave every satisfaction to both auctioneers and buyers. The drag arrangements were ably carried oiit without a hitch by Messrs Heads and Hill (of Invercargill). and Mr Kingsland's efforts to please everybody were appreciated.
