A GOLDEN TRESS.
0 gone that tress of golden hair — She cast it in the flame; But, nay, it could not perish there. I treasure it the same As when I held it, priceless, rare, And fed a deathless flame. A thousand dells are sweet with aew, A thousand -«lopes of fern. The mountain torrent murmurs through! The glade. The summits burn Snow bright. Sublime they bound the view. .0 sweet, _f ox ihe.s _I_yearn. _ . _ _ - But, ah. that golden tress is gone! I kissed it o'er and o'er. 1 wander on the sands forlorn, Anil list along the shore The solemn breakers marching on, With melancholy roar. O weary brow from ■which that tress In. innocence was shorn, May He who floods the wilderness With light mom after morn Descend to dwell with thee, and blesa Thy burdened! soul forlorn. O priceless from that glorious brow, Pure from her mother's kiss. Alas ! the wild is desert now — So glorious then. I miss That golden tress. To Thee I bow.
