D.L.F. LITERARY AND DEBATING CLUB.

D&ar Dot,— The usual weekly meeting of the D.L.F. Literary and Debating Club was held in the Witness Office on Tuesday evening, March 21. There weie present of the committee- The president (Harry}, in the chair; Black Watch, A. Ned, T.D.A., Lenore, C.C.M., Hubert, and 32 members. The subject under discussion was, " Should We Encourage Wholerale Immigration to Our Colonies ? " (thai is, Australasia). The affirmative was taken by A. Ned (leader), supported by Emerald, B. Bill, and Recce; and the negative by T.D.A. (leader), supported by Nil Desperanduni, Hairy, and Hubert. The question was taken both from a Briton's and a" colonial's point of view. The judges (One of Two Nippers, C.0.M., and Texas Jack) gave their decision in favour of the affirmative having won — that is, that wholesale immigration should be encouraged!

The members of the club assembled as usuav at the Witness Office on Tuesday evening. March 28. The president (Harry) occupied the chair; Black Watch, A. Ned, T.D.A., I/enore. C.C.M. and Hubert (of cornmitte?), nnd IS rnenibers were also present. Being an oper meeting, the members availed themselves o. the opportunity to write on any subject; consequently we had a vai'ed selection. Boy took an "Accent of the Reinarkables " ; Ceres, "Is Dot a Lady or a G-entleman ? " Paparoa, " The World Is Too Much With Us"; Coo-ec, "A Tribute to a Mothei's Memoi-y " . Darky.

At the close of tlie readings ths Chairmen referred with sincere regret to ihe death of one of our old writers- -namely, Red Cap, — who was drowned m the boating fatahtv in the upper harbour, and it ■svps unanimously resolved that a letter of sympathy be sent to fie parents oi our late comrade.— Yours tiuly.
