LEITH VALLEY.
On Friday evening a social was held in the Leitk Valley School Hall for the purpose of welcoming to the district the new teacher (ilr Moodie) and his family. The function wa= in every way a most enjoyable one. Mr Hender (secretary of the School Committee), in a few appreciative remarks, introduced Mr and Mrs Moodie to the company. The gathering was a large one, and the spirit of animated friendliness that pervaded it throughout the evening contributed greatly to the enjoyment. Songs were interspersed between the dances, Mr M'Laughlin playing the accompaniments. Mrs Booth at the piano, accompanied on the violin by Mr Hunt, supplied music for the dances, Messrs Turner, Love, and Henderson assisting occasionally. Mr Moodie thanked the residents for their warm welcome, and expressed'""* wish that the friendly relations established that evening might long continue, iiis practical suggestions for maintaining the school in its present grade were warmly approved of. He considered that the adage " Support local industry" should apply to the school as well as to other institutions. Such being the case, there would be no fear for the future. Three cheers for the guests and the singing of " For he's a jolly good fellow" terminated a most enjoyable evening.
