Md.vch 2". — A most enjoyable evening was spent last Wednesday at the Waipon Lake Pchoolhcxse, when a large number of the friend* of Mr William Wisaart assembled to srjend an evening with him on the eve of his departure from Berwick to take up his abode m the Eawke's "Bay Province. Various games were most heaxti-ly indulged in, by both young and old, such as draughts, cards.ludo. dominoes, and others. Miss Ferguson and the Misses E,oss, whose reputation as musicians is too well kr.cxin to need comment, gave a. large number ot musical selections (piano and violins) Wu-oughout the evening, which added most! materially to the enjoyment of all present. Miss Christina Petrie gave one oi her humorous rr citations, and was- loudly applauded. _ A. gentle-rnan from LawTenco gave a recitation, ©ntibled "A most charming widow," which- was _ considered tha gem of the evening. A game which was carried out by Messrs Hugh Lyall and Fred Smith and Miss 8.. Ross entitled "Introducing the Queen of Arabia," was received with much laughter. Miss Ross acting as the Queen. As an encore Mr Smith sang "Jessae's dream.' Tea and cake were -then, liberally handed round by some of the young ladies, and aitet ample justice had Keen dona to the good things, all present stood and s&ng most spiritedly "Auld lang syne" and "He's a jolly good fellow," and after ail Mr Wishart's many friends had expressed their regret ati losing so esteemed a neighbour, then candidly assured him that although he "was gone he would never be forgotten."

Agricultural. — Harvest, which is in full swing now, is fnlly six weeks later than last season. Most of the crops are very good, but last* Thursday's heavy gale damaged them considerab'y.
