OTAMA.
March 30. — The Gore cadets held a concert and dance in the Otarna Hall on March 4. The proceeds were in aid of their uniform fluid, and the sum. of £8 14s was realised. The entertainment took tho form: of a Christy Minstrel performance, and all the young folk acquitted themselves very well, "notably Mr D. Donaldson, in his Scotch song, "Kilhecrankie." A cornet solo by Mr Thomas was admirably lendicred, and for which he received,' an encore. Miss Wallis and Miss Priest acted) as accompanists during the evening. T!he> dance was very enjoyaffle, the refreshnients being provided by the ladies present. Mr Burrows, captain of tho cadets, thanked 1 those present for their patronage, and with strict military precision started! with his cadets for Gore a-t 12 o'clock, as they had a good long drive after that. Band of Hope. — The monthly meeting of the Otama Band of Hope was held in. the church on Wednesday night last. Mr R. Byars presided, and there was a fair attendance. The .Rev. Mr Paulin di&locibuted tha prizes to the children who won them at the singing and reciting competition which was h&ldi a- month before. During the evening, Miss Stewart and Miss M. Archibald, sang, two of the children also -singing solos Recitations by the following children wer© given : — M. Kennedy, A. Hoisted, D. Edmonstone, A. Walker, B. Clelland, and Masters G.Bruce and J. Favel. Mrs Alexander Stewart and Mr R. Frfrser also
contributed readings. The usual votes of ths.nks terminated the proceedings.
The Harvest. — The; weatheT herr is everything that is desirable from a farmer s point of visw, and highly fa-vffurp b!e for harve-sting. There are four threshing miPs aid hard 1 at work in this district, and oats are threshing out much better than was at iirst expected.
Bunny. — I ses the rabbit beason Las again begun, and bunny is just as much m evidence ps ever, and it will be a relief to get them thinned o-at again
Pastoral. — The season is very favourable for lambs fattening, and a large numbsr h^ve lett this district for the freezing works.
