DUNEDIN HORSE SALEYARDS.
Messrs Wright, Stephenson, and Co. report as follows: There was a fair yarding of horses for this week's sale, between 30 and 40 being entered. Included in the lot were some very useful sorts (both draught and light) from three years old upwards. The attendance of the public at the sale was not large, in fact, buyers were conspicuous by their absence, the principal reasons no doubt being that town contractors are not requiring many horses at present, and farmers cannot afford to leave the harvest fields while the weather is good. Business was very flat indeed, and to effect sales vendors had to accept of prices very much below what has been ruling lately. However, at the reduced values a few sales were made, amongst which was a very stylish upstanding dog-cart gelding (five years old) at £30. an sictive spring-cart filly (four years old) at £30, a useful hackney at £20, and two very light hacks at £7 10s each. "We quote : — Superior young draught geldings, at from £50 to £55; extra good do (prize horses), at from £56 to £65 ; superior young draught mares, at from £60 to £75 ; medium draught mares and geldings, at from £35 to £48 ; aged do, at from £22 to £34; upstanding carriage horses, at from £30 to £40; well-matched carriage pairs, at from £80 to £100; strong spring-van horses, at from £32 to £38; milk-cart and butchers' order-cart horses, at from £22 to £30: light hacks, at from £12 to £20; extra good hacks, at from £21 to £30; weedy and aged hacks and harness horses, at from £5 to £10.
