LAST NIGHT'S MEETING

On Friday night the series of evening meetings promoted by the Dunedin Amateur Athletic Club was brought to a conclusion at the Caledonian Grounds, there b?ing a record attendance. Despite the recent rain the track was in fair condition, and some good performances were recorded. O'Kane (who will represent Otago in the championships) easily accounted for the 4iO Yards Hurdles, quite outclassing his two opponents. In the 690 Yardp Race Hector Burk again gave evidence of his splencMd sprinting powers, his finish from the far turn being quite characteristic. It is quite evident that the capabilities of our local distance- champion have even yet been imperfectly gauged. The Hop, Step, and Jump brought to light Salligan, an aspirant for championship honours at Christchurch.. The Two-mile t Race was run in the darkness, the- winner (Dow-land) leading from start to finish. The following are the detailed results of the meeting : — 440 YARDS HURDLE HANDICAP. W. J. Here Bonnin made an effort, and. running gamely, got within 10 yawls- of Dowland, who was all out. Time, 9min 51 2-saec.

As usual, Air M'Donald's handicaps provided" good racing, while his starting left nothing to be complained of. Mr H. B. ' Courtis, __ vice-president of the club, was a welcome^ visitor after his holiday.
