CHRIST'S COLLEGE v. OTAGO BOYS' HIGH SCHOOL.

A WIK FOR THE SCHOOL,

The annual cricket match between Christ's College and the' Dunedin Boys' High School was commenced at Carisbrook on Monday morning. The weath was fine, and the wicket, though a trifle slow, in good order. The attendance in ihe morning was small, but in the afternoon a number of spectators, a large proportion of whom were ladies, found their way out to the ground. The umpires were Messrs W. H. Skitch. and H. White, who were appointed by the Umpires' Association.

| The School captain won the toss, and elected to bat ; Scott opening to Bean. Runs came slowly, both the School players being very cautious with Bean, who was getting on considerable work with underarm bowling Rutherford, who partnered Scott at the first wicket, played freely, and was not disposed of until he had placed a 1 well-compiled 28 to his credit. The next four wickets fell very quickly, until Foster and W. Ban nerican made a stand, the former batting very well for 37 (not out). ; The innings closed for 122. The College, I on ' go'ag in after the luncheon adjournment, opened disastrously, two wickets I falling for 2 runs, and the next four following in quick succession, sbx wickets being down at a cost of 29 runs. But Ellis and Boulnois made a good stand, until the latter was given out lbw to Bannerman after having put up 17. Widdowson partnered Ellis, and runs still came freely, the College finishing up with a total of 137, of whioh Ellis contributed an excellent 58 (not out). The School made a good beginning in Iheir second innings, scoring £5 at a cost of three wickets.
