POMAHAKA DOWNS.

August 8 — When I last wiote we were enjoying fine spring weather, but now we are m fie midst of the heaviest fall of snow which has taken place for several years. I should say that a foot of snow must have fallen all o'-( r the district, whilst in places it has been drifted to a consKterable depth. We are. as it were, completely shut in from the oaitside v.crld, and it will be interesting reading when we can get the news of the extent of this heavy fall The Farm. — Most farmers here got on well vith their ploughing, and this snow and frost w>!l bs the life of the ground ; so we may look i>: bumper crops next season. AH work is, of cours?, at a &land still, and settlers have been busy looking after their live stock. Straw stacks prove their value in such a. time as this for cattle, and sheaves are being carted out to korp the sheep alive, ss they cannot get down to the turnips. 1.0.0.F. — The members of the Popotunoa Lr.dge held a bill m ihe Athenaeum Hall, Clinton, on the evening of Friday, July 29, and it was 9t great success. This branch of the 1.0.0. F. has within the last year or two enlcllecl a good number of new members, and it is ro,v strong; but, though .strong, it will be only too hrppy to eniol more. Farmer*' Union. — A meeting of this union was to have been held in Clinton last Thursday, but owing to the heavy fall of snow, I suppose, it did not take p. ace. At any rate most farmers must have been blocked. I expected interesting news from Mr Ciark, who has returned from Wellington, but some other day we may be more fortunate.
