Notes from Cromwell. (From Our Own Correspondent.)
CROMWELL, June 16. The Rileys Beach dredge lias started working, and I believe everything i 3 running well. Tte Alpine No. 2 dredae is workiug steadily.
' but the rise in the river will affect the return. The Hartley and Riley dredge had a break, and will be stopped all this week v.-aiting for material. • N The Rise and Shine No. 2 dredge broke thu elevator tumbler cheek yesterday, but will likely get started again to-morrow. June 20. The weather is fine with heavy frosts, and the river is falling fast. It rose very little her* even with all the rain, and is down to the level it was at before the rain of last week. It will make the drift bad for a week. I think all the dredges should get started next week. The Riley's Beach dredge is working steadily, and I believe the prospects are good. There ia a big stretch of maiden ground in front of the dredge. Both the dredge? of the Elertric Company are working. Tha Cromwell No. 2 dredge if dropping dowa to work a beach lower down the cluim. The Bise and Shine No. 1 dredge is repairing this week.
