PARIS, June 15
In connection with the recent scene iv the* French Chamber, M. Leon Chabert, in a letter to the Temps, asserts that he suggested to M. Michel La Grave, an official of the Ministry of Commerce, without consultation with the Carthusian monks, the desirability of their giving money to the Government for benevolent purposes, provided that their order was authorised.
M. Edgar Combes (a son of the Premier) .states that La Grave told him tnat the monks were disposed to place £80,000 in the hands of the Government if the order were- authorised. M. E. Combes replied that the order would not be authorised, and that the Prime Minister would be deeply offended if he heard of the offer.
Of the 33 members composing the Chamber's Committee of Investigation 20 are hostile to the Government.
