An ordinary meeting of ihe "Waihemo County, Council was held at Pahnerston on Saturday; present— Mr M Isbister (chairman), Crs D. Ross, Philip, Clarke, Griffin, Cameron, J. Ross, and R. Matheson.

The Inspector (Mr G Ciui-:kshank) reported that he had carried out the improvements at Pleasant Raver on the old Goodwood track, and also the improvements as far as possible on the road to Broocklanus. The roads in Gocdwood Riding required a good deal of attention, and more money expended than ihe present rp.te came to. The improvements ordered at the Domain last meeting were being effected. He had not been able to get up to fix the fence at ihe Dunback bridge, but would attend to it as soon as possib'e. There was some work at Bliie Mountain, or the Switchback road, requiring attention, and repairs were also required on the Main road to Dunback. The contractors bad got through with, ihe gravelling on Hcrseburn road. The bridge at Howard's farm would require attention m the spring; it was a bridge on the boundary bc-tween "Waihemo and Manioicto. — Adopted.

The Dredgemaster of the Inch Valley dredge wrote with reference to ihe crossing near Mr Isbister's property. — A deputation from ths company writod on the council w-ith reference io a proposed dam on the river. — After consideration the council resolved that it could not, iv the interests of the ratepayers, see :ts way to favourably consider the proposal to erect a dam.

The solicitors to the Inch Valley Dredging Company wrote thanking the council for the consideration shown to the company m connection with the sale of the closed load through the claim. The Department of Roads forwarded the Order-in-Council consentirg to the clcsiug of tho road.

The Department of Agriculture wrote givingnotice that fennel, periwinkle, and elderberry had been added to the list of noxious weeds. — Received.

Tha Valuation Department forwarded the revised valuation rolls for the district. — Received.

M'Gregor Bros, wrote asking ijermispion fo construct a culvert across the Alain road leading to Macraes, near the Two Rivers. The culveit would be constructed cf stone or any material the council desired, and it uas designed to carry water for mining purposes. — The council decided to grant permission.

The Clerk to the Bruce County Council wrote stating that he would forward a bird trap as soon as possible. — The clerk said ths trap had been received and placed outside the Council Chambers, where a number of sparrows had been caught. — Tha ccrancillora decided to purchase a trap each, to ba made locally. Ihe Treasury Department forwarded £2 IGs 7d, being goldfields revenue brought to credit during May. — Received. The Engineer to the Roads Department telegraphed requesting information as to the locality of the Puketapu Government vote expenditure. — The clerk reported that the information had been supplied

The council's solicitor wrote that he had received from the Engineer for Roads a copy of the proclamation taking the portion of M'Culloch's sections required for road purposes. He was advertising vhe proclamation, and the taking would then be complete. — Received.

GENERAL,,

Accounts amounting to £149 were passed forpayment. The usual resolutions regarding borrowing cf money from the bank by way of overdraft were passed.

It was reported that Mr Wiikie, II E.C.V.S., would visit Palsnerston and deliver a lecture to faiftncis if arrangements could be mpde. — It was resolved to give the use of the Council Chamber free for the occasion.

The inspector was empoweied to attend io the road near M'Lerman's, at Dunback.

The council agreed that the poisoning duringthe coming season should be carried out by the surfacemen on tfap different riding?.

The "Bylaws Committee reported having amended the by-laws by the incorporation of a section of a bj-!a\v of the "VVaikouaiti County Council with reference to offences on roads. — The report was approved, and a special meeting was fixed for 2 p.m. on July IG, the next meeting day.
